Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
