The Kenyan star wins record-breaking 4th world 1500m title

Faith Kipyegon celebrating her victory
She has collected eight international gold medals throughout her career

The Kenyan runner stormed to a record-equaling 4th world 1500m gold as the Kenyan great prolonged her streak of dominance with a fifth consecutive global gold in the event

At 31 years old equaled former male athletics legend Hicham El Guerrouj as the sole additional competitor in athletics history to achieve four 1500m titles at the global event

Having achieved her 3rd consecutive Olympic triumph recently, this marked a third successive championship win for Kipyegon, who controlled the race from the outset before bursting clear of her competitors on the final lap

Not only is she victorious in the previous five world finals but, aside from qualifiers, she has not suffered defeat over the 1500m for more than 4 years

Australia's Olympic runner-up Jessica Hull faded to the bronze medal after trying to match Faith as she increased the pace, with her compatriot achieving a double podium for Kenya

The unstoppable champion finished in a time of 3:52.15, the gap separating her from her challengers evidenced by the approximately 3-second delay for her teammate to follow

With outstretched arms and a relaxed smile which indicated it had never felt in doubt, the champion celebrated the 8th world title of her professional journey

Her tally is on par with sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce - the only other runner to win up to 4 international golds in the equivalent race - and endurance legend the Ethiopian star for the highest number by a female athlete in individual events

The champion will set her sights on a second consecutive world double in the 5,000m, the preliminary rounds for which start on midweek before Saturday's decider
